How a company achieves excellence

Bottle caps

You don’t become a great company through some overnight stroke of genius.

You become a great company by building a team of people who sweat the small stuff.

Excellence in the small stuff becomes excellence as a company over time.

Example: I love whoever on my team labeled the water bottle caps for each speaker at our conference. More focused speakers + less scrambling before each speech = better speeches = better conference.

Hire people who care deeply about the details.

Attention to details take time and IS worth it. Businesses have to give their people – whether employees or consultants – time to do EVERYTHING that needs to be done. If you don’t they will focus on what you can see and easily measure and neglect what is less obvious that can make all the difference. Focus on quality first instead of quantity.
