If you love somebody, set them free

We used to host all of our blogs with TypePad. We were happy with the service.

Until one day, they changed a setting — there was no way to export our images files. They were holding us hostage.

So we left for WordPress. It was a ton of work, but we felt like we had to leave. We weren’t going to get locked in even deeper.

Summary: TypePad was so worried about customers leaving that they got all defensive — and forced them to leave.

Trust your customers to stay for the right reasons, like a great product or great service. You can’t make them.
