Marley & Me: Making it easy to share

MarleyMe_10sec_smallWord of mouth marketing is about two simple ideas:  Give people a reason to talk, and make it easy to share.

Check out this very simple web site for the Marley & Me movie. It gets the basic right.

  1. Cool banner ads that let you buy movie tickets for a friend
  2. Simple ways to share on MySpace and Facebook
  3. Ecards to send to a friend
  4. Downloadable graphics, wallpaper, etc.
  5. A graphic for your email signature (Something I hadn't seen before)

I'm downplaying some fairly impressive features on the site and the Facebook application, because I think they're nice–but not necessary.

The lesson: You don't need a fancy social media strategy — just some good stuff to talk about.  You can do this yourself.

P.S. I received a really long pitch from their PR firm explaining in great detail the sophisticated research behind this campaign. I'm not sure they'll be happy with me talking about how simple it is.
