Scott “The Nametag Guy” Ginsberg on happiness, respect, and word of mouth

I asked a few simple questions to a bunch of smart marketers.

Enjoy this great answer from Scott “That Guy With The Nametag” Ginsberg.

Great marketing comes down to one simple idea: Earn the respect and recommendation of your customers, and they will do the rest. What is your advice for any company that wants to make people happy?

Companies who want to make people happy, earn respect and get a WOM recommendation need to do the following things:

1. Make the mundane memorable. From front line greetings to voicemail to marketing materials, they need to break people’s patterns and be unforgettable – one conversation at a time.

2. Stick yourself out there. A willingness to be approachable via online social media.

3. Cultivate FANS, not customers. And stay in front of and take care of these people forever.

4. Have fun. No explanation needed.

5. Respect. See also Aretha Franklin’s song of the same name.

6. Consistency and commitment. And VISUALLY reminding your fans thereof.

7. Be That Guy. Unique, not different. Be “thee,” not “a,” and be the ONLY one in your industry who does what you do.

8. Nametags. They work. Wear ’em. Who cares how dumb you look. Customers feel comfortable.

Thanks, Scott!
