This is an important book

The circle

Dave Egger’s new novel, The Circle, is fantastic.

It’s also an important warning for anyone who is touched by social media (which is all of us).

In 1948, George Orwell wrote 1984 as a warning about what could go wrong with a totalitarian society.

The Circle is a damn close, and damn scary prediction of what will happen if we continue to hand control of our private lives to companies with few privacy controls on themselves. The one difference: This is something that is happening today, not in some far distant future.

Please read it and think deep.

It’s not private companies having my data that I’m most worried about. It’s private companies in bed with the government. I agree that companies like Google and Apple have far too much of my data, but when the government get’s a hold of it (they have and they will) then we’re all pretty much screwed.
