Aha! #3: Great Ideas from John Earnhardt of Cisco

We hosted a cool event last October called BlogWell: How Big Businesses Use Social Media. Some amazingly great ideas  were shared by some very large companies, and I wanted to share them with you.

We're doing it again on January 22 in Chicago. Hear social media case studies from Allstate, H&R Block, The Home Depot, Mayo Clinic, Procter & Gamble, Walmart, Sharpie and the U.S. Coast Guard. Learn more.

John's big idea: Video blogging is better than blogging because it is authentic.  You can't fake it.

John Earnhardt believes the future of blogging is video because it's authentic and you can't fake it.  When John Chambers speaks on camera in a vlog post, you can see it's really him.  It's personal, transparent, and immediate.  John also revealed that "fast is better than polished and time-consuming.  We don't put a lot of time or money into production values."  John also shared Cisco's ROI on its videos:

  • Cost, from $1,000 to $7,000 per video setup
  • They have 2 PR cams at cost of $5,000
  • To date, they've produced 185 videos
  • Cost per video: $30 and falling
  • Views per video: 700
  • Cost per view: $.04
